Quick answer
Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash Enclave 1, Delhi is a dental clinic for Nehru Place, open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 am to 8:00 pm. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva examine a painful tooth and explain whether it needs a filling, a root canal or an extraction.
01 Overview
The NHS lists the common causes of toothache as decay or an abscess, a cracked or damaged tooth, a loose or broken filling, an infection often from a wisdom tooth that lacks room to come through, gum disease and grinding.3 It advises booking a dentist if the pain lasts more than two days or painkillers do not ease it.3
Once the dentist has examined the tooth, the choices are usually a filling or crown, a root canal that keeps the tooth, or taking the tooth out. The NHS says an infected tooth that is not treated with root canal treatment may need to be extracted, and that root canal treatment usually takes two or more appointments.2 A wisdom tooth removal takes a few minutes and no more than 40 minutes, and most people go home the same day.1
If you are looking for a dentist near Nehru Place, or wondering where to get a root canal near Nehru Place, the clinic is in the basement of E 75, Greater Kailash Enclave 1, opposite Anubhav Play School, with the entrance at Gate 1. Nehru Place is roughly 1 km to the east on Wikipedia's coordinates, in a straight line and not a road distance, so allow for the real route.5 Our pages on root canal treatment, tooth extraction and wisdom tooth removal cover each in detail.
A painful tooth is examined first, and a filling, a root canal or an extraction is chosen after that.
02 Candidacy
The NHS gives these guides, and the dentist decides what is needed after an examination.3
Pain that lasts more than two days deserves an appointment, and swelling that spreads needs urgent help.
03 Options
The choice depends on what the examination and X-ray show.
Decay, a crack or a broken filling are among the common causes of toothache, and repairing the tooth treats the cause.3
Treats the cause 3
Antibiotics after a removal are the dentist's decision, as the aftercare section explains.
| Filling or crown | Root canal | Extraction | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Used for | Decay, a crack, a broken filling 3 | An infected tooth that can be kept 2 | A tooth that cannot be saved, or a wisdom tooth with no room 1 |
| Visits | Usually one or two | Two or more 2 | Usually one 1 |
| Main limit | Not enough tooth may be left | The tooth still needs a filling or crown 2 | A gap is left to fill or replace |
Treat the cause where the tooth can be kept, and remove it where it cannot.
04 Procedure
Every case is individual, so your steps may differ. This is the usual order.
The pain is eased and the cause found first, and the treatment follows from what the examination shows.
Call or message us on WhatsApp, say where the pain is and how long it has lasted, and we will find the earliest time. There is no form to fill in.
The dentist asks where it hurts, how long, what sets it off, whether there is swelling, a bad taste or a fever, and about your health, medicines and allergies.3
The dentist examines the tooth and gum, tests the tooth, and takes an X-ray, which the clinic does on site.
Infection and pain are dealt with first, and the dentist explains what is needed.
You talk through a filling or crown, a root canal and an extraction, with the number of visits each needs.2
A local anaesthetic numbs the tooth. A wisdom tooth removal usually takes a few minutes and no more than 40.1 Root canal treatment usually takes two or more appointments.2
You receive written aftercare advice and, where needed, a review visit.
05 Aftercare
Your dentist will give you written instructions, and those come first. These are the basics from the NHS.1
For up to two weeks you can expect pain, swelling, bruising on the cheek and a stiff jaw, with pain and swelling starting to improve after one or two days.1
Take paracetamol or ibuprofen, eat soft or liquid food, rinse with warm salt water, and press firmly on any bleeding for at least 10 minutes.1
A temporary filling sits in the tooth between visits, and the tooth needs a filling or crown afterwards.2
Whether you need them is the dentist's decision, because the evidence is low-certainty and mostly from healthy people having wisdom teeth out.4
Call the clinic on 098115 01995 if bleeding does not stop after firm pressure, if pain gets worse after two or three days, or if you have a fever. If you have swelling that spreads across your face or neck, or trouble breathing or swallowing, call 112 or go to a hospital emergency department.
Most soreness settles within days, and worsening pain or spreading swelling means call.
06 Limits and risks
No treatment removes every risk, and the evidence has limits. These are the limits:
In these cases the dentist may stage the treatment or choose another option.
Infection. Infection after an extraction may need antibiotics.1 Antibiotics may reduce infection in healthy people having wisdom teeth out, but the evidence is low-certainty, and the review warns of antibiotic resistance.4
Soreness and swelling. Expect pain, swelling and bruising for up to two weeks after a wisdom tooth removal.1
A root canal tooth may still be lost. An infected tooth that is not treated may need to be extracted.2
Averages are not promises. The figures describe groups of patients, so your dentist should explain what is likely for you.24
A good plan names these limits and treats the cause of the pain.
07 Your visit
At your first visit, a dentist at Orion Dental Clinic asks about the pain: where it is, how long you have had it, and what sets it off. You are asked about your health, medicines and allergies.
The dentist examines the tooth and gum and takes an X-ray where needed, then explains what they find and talks through a filling, a root canal, an extraction or watching a tooth. You can take your time to decide.
The first visit is for finding the cause of the pain, and nothing is started until you agree.
08 Why this clinic
You meet the doctors who treat you, and you can ask them what a root canal, an extraction or a wisdom tooth removal would involve.
