Dental Bonding in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi

Dental bonding uses a tooth-coloured resin that is shaped on the tooth and hardened with light, to repair a chip, close a small gap or change the shape of a tooth. At Orion Dental Clinic, a dentist in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), South Delhi, this page explains how it is done, what systematic reviews say about how long it lasts, why repairs are normal and what to ask first, in plain language.

Treatment is planned by Dr Anupam Sinha (BDS, MDS) and Dr Natalia DeSilva (BDS, MDS). Bonding is one part of cosmetic dentistry. Ask as many questions as you need before you decide.

Quick answer

Dental bonding at Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi uses tooth-coloured resin, shaped on the tooth and hardened with light, to repair or reshape it. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva plan each case after an examination. Reviews show results vary widely, fracture is the common failure, and repairs or replacement are normal.

01 Overview

What is dental bonding, and how does it work in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

In dental bonding, a tooth-coloured composite resin is applied to the tooth, shaped by the dentist and hardened with a special light. It is used to repair chips, to close small gaps and to change the shape or length of a tooth, and a German evidence-based guideline says composite is a viable option for direct restorations and for tooth shape corrections.4

How long bonding lasts is harder to state than for veneers, because the research is mixed. A review of anterior composite restorations with at least three years of follow-up found that 24.1% of 1,821 had failed, with yearly failure rates of 0 to 4.1% and survival from 53.4% in the weakest study to every restoration surviving in the strongest.1 A later review of 25 studies found yearly failure rates from 0% to 27.11% and survival from 28.6% in the weakest study to every restoration surviving in the strongest.3

These reviews cover front-tooth fillings and repairs as well as cosmetic work, so they describe bonding in general and not only cosmetic bonding. They agree that fracture of the tooth or the restoration is the most common reason for failure, and that failures to do with colour, form and stain are more frequent when bonding is placed for cosmetic reasons.1 Our page on dental veneers covers a more extensive alternative.

Bonding is a conservative, adjustable option, and the trade-off is that repairs and replacements are expected over the years.

02 Candidacy

Who can have dental bonding in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

Bonding suits many adults with healthy teeth and gums who want a small change to one or a few teeth. The dentist decides after an examination.

Who bonding may suit

  • People with a chipped or worn edge on a front tooth.5
  • People with a small gap, or a tooth whose shape or length they would like to change.4
  • People who want a change that is adjustable and can be repaired.5
  • People who will keep their reviews, because bonding needs monitoring, repairs or replacement over time.5

Who needs extra care or a different plan

  • People with tooth decay or gum disease that has not been treated, which come first.
  • People who want a colour change only, who may be better served by whitening.
  • People whose teeth are heavily worn or broken, who may need a different or larger restoration.
  • People who grind or bite on hard things, because fracture is the common failure.1

Bonding suits small, healthy changes, and you should expect to maintain it.

03 Options

Which dental bonding options are there in Greater Kailash 1?

Bonding can be used in several ways, and the research gives different survival figures for each use.

Bonding to repair a chip or fracture

Resin rebuilds the broken part of a tooth. Class III restorations, which repair the sides of front teeth, generally had lower yearly failure rates than the other types.13

Repairs and corners 1

Bonding to change shape or close a gap

Resin is added to change the shape, size or length of a tooth. The German guideline lists tooth shape corrections as a suitable use.4

Shape correction 4

Bonding on worn front teeth

Composite can be used to rebuild teeth that have worn down. Survival was 88% over 2 to 10 years in one review, and patients should be told that these restorations need monitoring, repair or replacement.5

04 Procedure

How is dental bonding done, step by step?

Every plan is individual, so your steps may differ. This is the usual order for bonding on a front tooth.14

Bonding is done in layers and shaped by eye, so the dentist's skill and a careful bite check matter.

  1. Consultation and examination for dental bonding

The dentist asks what you would like to change and examines the tooth, the gum and your bite. X-rays or photographs may be taken.

  2. Treating decay and gum problems first

Any decay or gum disease is treated before bonding is done.

  3. Choosing the composite resin shade

The dentist chooses a resin shade that matches the neighbouring teeth, which matters because colour mismatch is a known reason for failure when bonding is done for appearance.1

  4. Preparing the tooth for dental bonding

The tooth surface is cleaned and treated so that the resin can bond to it. The adhesive technique is one of the factors linked to failure.13

  5. Applying and shaping the composite resin

The resin is applied in layers, shaped to the tooth and hardened with a light, as a direct restoration.

  6. Polishing and checking the bite

The surface is polished and the bite is checked, so that the new edge does not take too much force.

  7. Review and repair

You come back to check the bonding. Review studies found large differences in performance, with the treatment setting and the number of operators among the factors, so keep your reviews and report any chip early.2

05 Aftercare

Caring for bonded teeth in Greater Kailash 1

Your dentist will give you written instructions, and those come first.

The first days

Follow the advice you are given about food, and report any rough edge or high spot, because a bite that is too heavy risks a fracture.

Fracture

Fracture of the tooth or the restoration was the most common reason for failure in both reviews.13 Avoid biting hard objects such as pens, nails and ice with bonded teeth.

Every day

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean between the teeth every day. Healthy gums and teeth support the bonding.

Check-ups and repairs

Keep your regular check-ups. Bonded teeth need monitoring, and repairs or replacement are normal over the years.5

When to call us

Call the clinic on 098115 01995 the same day if you have sensitivity or pain that your usual pain relief does not control, gums that are very red, swollen or painful, a chip, crack or rough edge on a treated tooth, or a restoration that comes loose. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling that spreads across your face or neck, call 112 or go to a hospital emergency department.

Avoid hard biting, clean carefully and report chips early.

06 Limits and risks

When is dental bonding not the right choice?

Bonding is simple and adjustable, but it does not suit every tooth or every aim. These are situations where your dentist may suggest a different plan:

  • Tooth decay or gum disease that has not been treated.
  • A change of colour across all teeth, which whitening treats.
  • Heavily worn or broken teeth that need a larger restoration.
  • Strong grinding or biting habits that risk fracture.
  • A wish for a very long-lasting result, since bonding is expected to need repair or replacement.

In these cases whitening, veneers, a crown or treatment of the grinding habit first may be better.

Risks and complications

Failure is common over time. In a review of 17 studies the total failure rate was 24.1% after three years or more, and yearly failure rates ranged from 0 to 4.1%.1 A larger review found yearly failure rates from 0% to 27.11%.3

Fracture is the main problem. Fracture of the tooth or the restoration was the most common reason for failure.13 Failures of colour, form and surface stain were more frequent when restorations were placed for appearance.1

Results depend on the setting and the operator. A review of 24 studies found large differences in performance and identified the treatment environment and the number of operators as influential factors.2

Repairs are expected. On worn front teeth, survival was 88% over 2 to 10 years, with 68% judged successful, and patients should be told that these restorations will need monitoring, repairs or replacement.5

A good plan names these limits before treatment starts, and treats bonding as something you will maintain.

07 Your visit

What happens at your first dental bonding consultation?

At your first visit, a dentist at Orion Dental Clinic asks what you would like to change about the tooth and why, how it was chipped or worn, and about your health, medicines, allergies and earlier dental work. If a piece of the tooth has broken off, bring it.

The dentist examines the tooth, the gum and your bite, and may take photographs or X-rays. You then talk through whether bonding suits the tooth, alternatives such as veneers, how long it is likely to last, what repairs are normal and what the risks are, and you can take your time to decide.

The first visit is for examination and questions, and nothing is bonded until you agree.

11 Travelling patients

Visiting Delhi and needing dental bonding?

Bonding is one of the quicker cosmetic treatments, because the resin is applied and shaped directly on the tooth, so it can often be planned around a short stay. Even so, an examination comes first, and bonding is expected to need review and repair over the years, so find out how that will work once you are back home.

You can read about smile makeovers and veneers for international patients.

Bonding can fit a short visit, as long as you have a plan for reviews and repairs afterwards.

12 Questions

Dental bonding questions patients ask in Greater Kailash 1

What is dental bonding?

A tooth-coloured composite resin applied to the tooth, shaped by the dentist and hardened with light, to repair chips, close small gaps or change the shape of a tooth.4

How long does dental bonding last?

It varies a lot. A review of anterior composite restorations found yearly failure rates of 0 to 4.1% and survival from 53.4% to every restoration surviving,1 and on worn front teeth, survival was 88% over 2 to 10 years.5 Expect repairs or replacement over time.

Why does bonding fail?

Fracture of the tooth or the restoration is the most common reason, and failures of colour, form and stain are more frequent when bonding is placed for appearance.1

Can a chipped tooth be repaired with bonding?

Often, yes. Repairing front tooth corners and sides was one of the commonest uses in the research, and these restorations generally had lower yearly failure rates.1

Is bonding better than veneers?

They suit different jobs. Bonding builds up or reshapes part of a tooth directly, and veneers cover the whole front of a tooth. Your dentist will explain which suits yours, and what each would involve for the tooth, before you decide.

Does bonding stain?

Colour and surface stain are among the reasons for failure when bonding is placed for appearance,1 which is why the shade, the polish and daily cleaning matter.

Does the dentist's experience matter?

Reviews of anterior composite restorations found large differences in performance, with the treatment setting and the number of operators among the factors.2

Do I need to look after bonded teeth differently?

Avoid biting hard objects, brush twice a day, clean between the teeth every day and keep your check-ups. Bonded teeth need monitoring and, over the years, repair or replacement.5

Where can I find dental bonding near me in South Delhi?

13 Second opinion

Have a chipped or uneven tooth?

A consultation lets you ask whether bonding suits the tooth before you commit to anything, how long it is likely to last and what repairs to expect. Bring any piece of tooth that broke off. The dentist will examine the tooth, explain what they find and describe the options, including veneers or leaving it as it is. There is no form to fill in: message us on WhatsApp or call, and we will find a time that suits you.
