01 What it means

What does a pediatric dentist do?

A pediatric dentist, also called a pedodontist, is a dentist who has trained in the dental care of babies, children and teenagers. The NHS advises taking a child to the dentist when the first milk teeth appear, or before the age of one, so that they get used to it, and then to attend regular check-ups as the dentist advises.1

Children's dentistry rests on prevention: brushing with the right amount of fluoride toothpaste, limiting sugary food and drink, and regular check-ups.1 Fluoride varnish and fissure sealants can add protection for teeth that are at risk.

02 At the clinic

Who treats children at Orion Dental Clinic?

Dr Natalia DeSilva treats children as well as adults, and Dr Anupam Sinha plans braces for children and teenagers. Neither holds a master's degree in children's dentistry: their master's degrees are in oral medicine and radiology and in orthodontics, and children are part of their general work.

A good dentist says honestly when a child's problem would be better treated by someone else, and we will do the same.
