Immediate Implants in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi

Orion Dental Clinic is a dentist in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), South Delhi. An immediate implant is placed on the day a tooth is taken out, and in some cases a temporary tooth is fitted the same day, which is why people call it same day teeth. This page explains what that means, who it may suit, how long treatment really takes, how recovery goes and what can go wrong, in plain language, so that you can decide with confidence.

Treatment is planned by Dr Anupam Sinha (BDS, MDS) and Dr Natalia DeSilva (BDS, MDS). Ask as many questions as you need before you decide.

Quick answer

Immediate implants at Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi are placed on the day a tooth is removed, and a temporary tooth is sometimes fitted the same day. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva decide after an examination and imaging whether your mouth suits it. The final tooth still follows after months of healing.

01 Overview

What are immediate implants, and how do they work in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

An immediate implant is a titanium post placed into the socket of a tooth at the same visit that the tooth is taken out. Waiting for the gum to heal and then placing the post is the usual route, and it means two separate procedures. Placing the implant immediately may reduce the treatment time and the number of operations.1

Same day teeth is a different idea that often goes with it. It means a temporary tooth, or several, is attached to the implant within about a week, sometimes on the day itself, and it is called immediate loading. A Cochrane review of 26 trials found no convincing evidence of a clinically important difference in failure or bone loss between loading times.2 The final tooth or teeth are still made after the bone has bonded, and that usually takes three to six months.3

Immediate placement does not stop the bone around the socket from shrinking, because bone loss after extraction is a natural process.1 It suits some teeth and some mouths and not others. You can read about the wider treatment on our page for dental implants, and about a single missing tooth on single tooth implant.

Immediate means the implant goes in at the extraction visit, and not that the whole treatment is finished in a day.

02 Candidacy

Who can have immediate implants in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

Immediate implants suit some adults who need a tooth taken out, but only when the bone and gum around the socket allow it. Your dentist decides after an examination and imaging, and may suggest waiting.3

Who immediate placement may suit

  • Adults whose jaw has finished growing and who need a tooth removed that cannot be saved.
  • People with enough sound bone around the socket for the implant to be held firmly, which is called primary stability.1
  • People with enough healthy gum to close over or around the implant.1
  • People with healthy remaining teeth and gums who keep them clean and attend check-ups.3

Who needs extra care or a different plan

  • Smokers. Smokers have a much greater failure rate, and NHS guidance asks patients to stop at least six months before treatment.3
  • People with gum disease or infection at the site that has not been treated. Gum treatment may come first.3
  • People who grind their teeth, because grinding can overload implants.3
  • People with health conditions or medicines that affect healing, and teenagers whose jaws are still growing.4

Whether an implant can go in on the day depends on how much firm bone and healthy gum the socket leaves.

03 Options

Which options are there for placing an implant after an extraction in Greater Kailash 1?

There are three common ways to plan timing, and your dentist will explain which fits your mouth.

Immediate implant, final tooth after healing

The post is placed as the tooth comes out. The gum heals around it, and the final crown is fitted after the bone has bonded.

Healing about 3 to 6 months 3

Immediate implant with a temporary tooth the same day

A temporary tooth is attached to the implant on the day, if the implant is held firmly enough. It is not used for hard biting while the bone heals.

Same-day temporary tooth, final tooth later

Delayed implant after the socket heals

The tooth is removed first. The dentist waits for the gum to heal and places the implant at a second visit, which means two procedures.

Two procedures

If a tooth is still in place, read about tooth extraction first. If several teeth in a row or a whole jaw are involved, see full mouth dental implants.

Timing is a decision for your dentist, based on your bone, your gum and the position of the tooth.

04 Procedure

How are immediate implants placed, step by step?

Every case is planned individually, so your steps may differ. This is the usual order.13

The implant goes in at the extraction visit, and the final tooth still needs months of healing.

  1. Examination and imaging before an immediate implant

The dentist asks about your health and medicines, examines the tooth, the gum and your bite, and takes X-rays or a 3D scan. These show the bone around the root and whether the tooth can be saved.

  2. Deciding between immediate and delayed implant surgery

If the socket cannot hold an implant firmly, or there is infection or too little gum, the dentist may advise waiting. You are told why, and what the alternatives are.

  3. Tooth extraction and implant surgery at one visit

The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic. The tooth is removed, the socket is cleaned and the titanium post is placed. Ask about sedation dentistry if you are anxious. Some patients are given antibiotics, and in the review, groups given a course after surgery had fewer failures.1

  4. A same-day temporary tooth, if suitable

If the implant is held firmly, a temporary tooth can be attached the same day for appearance. It is kept out of hard biting while the bone heals.

  5. Healing and osseointegration

The bone bonds to the post over about three to six months, and longer if a graft was needed.3 You are given written care instructions. Soft tissue changes mostly settle in the first three months.1

  6. Fitting the final implant crown

When the post is firm, the dentist attaches a connector called an abutment and takes impressions. The final crown or teeth are made to match your bite and your neighbouring teeth, then fitted.

  7. Reviews and long-term care

NHS guidance advises monitoring every three to six months over the long term.3 Your dentist checks the gum around the implant, the bite and the crown, and shows you how to clean them.

05 Aftercare

Recovery after an immediate implant in Greater Kailash 1

Recovery has four phases. Your dentist will give you written instructions that fit your treatment, and those come first.

The first 48 hours

Bleeding, swelling and discomfort are common because a tooth has been removed as well as an implant placed.3 Keep the area clean, eat soft, cool food, rest, and take your medicines as prescribed. Do not smoke.

The first week

Swelling and bruising settle. Avoid biting on the site, even if a temporary tooth was fitted, rinse gently if you are told to, and attend your follow-up for stitches or a check.

Weeks 2 to 12

The implant is bonding to the bone. Brush as normal, keep a temporary tooth clean as shown, keep every review visit and avoid tobacco.

Long term

Brush twice a day and clean around the crown where it meets the gum, using the interdental brushes or aids your dentist shows you. Attend check-ups, which NHS guidance puts at every three to six months.3

When to call us

Call the clinic on 098115 01995 the same day if the temporary tooth or the implant feels loose, if the socket bleeds after 20 minutes of firm pressure, if swelling is still growing after the third day, or if you have a fever, pus, a bad taste or pain that medicines do not control. Numbness or tingling in the lip, chin or tongue that does not go away needs a call too. If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling that spreads towards your eye or neck, go to a hospital emergency department.

Follow your written instructions, protect the site while it heals and call early if something feels wrong.

06 Limits and risks

When are immediate implants not the right choice?

Placing an implant on the day of an extraction is not always possible or wise. A good dentist is willing to say no, or to wait. These are situations where your dentist may advise a delay, a different option, or advice from your other doctors:

  • Infection or untreated gum disease at the site.
  • Too little bone or gum around the socket to hold the implant firmly.
  • Smoking, if you are not ready to stop.
  • Health conditions that are not under control, or medicines that affect bone healing.
  • Radiotherapy to the jaw in the past.
  • Teeth grinding that is not controlled.
  • A jaw that is still growing.

In these cases the tooth may be removed first and the implant placed after the gum has healed, or another way of replacing the tooth may be better.

Risks and complications

The evidence is encouraging but not long. A review of 46 prospective studies, with an average follow-up of about two years, found a yearly failure rate of 0.82 percent for immediate implants, which is 98.4 percent surviving at two years. Its authors say more long-term studies are needed, especially for how the result looks.1

The bone and gum still change. Bone loss after an extraction is a natural process, and immediate placement does not prevent it. Most bone loss around the implant happens in the first year and is generally less than 1 mm.1 Front teeth need extra care because the shape of the gum shows.

Loading studies are small and mixed. In 26 trials with 1,217 participants, the average implant failure rate was 2.5 percent, with no convincing difference between loading times. Only three of the trials were at low risk of bias.2

Surgery has its own risks. Swelling, bruising and discomfort are common for a few days, and infection can occur. An implant may not bond to the bone and may have to be removed, and altered feeling or numbness in the lip or chin is very rare.34

A good plan names these risks before treatment starts, and says openly when waiting is the better choice.

07 Your visit

What happens at your first immediate implant visit?

At your first visit, a dentist at Orion Dental Clinic asks about the tooth that is causing trouble, any pain or infection, and your health, medicines and smoking. Bring recent X-rays if you have them.

The dentist examines the tooth, the gum and your bite, and takes X-rays or a 3D scan to see whether the tooth can be saved and whether an implant could go in on the day it comes out. You hear when a temporary tooth is possible, and what could go wrong.

The first visit decides whether an implant on the day of extraction is possible.

08 Why this clinic

Why choose Orion Dental Clinic for immediate implants in Greater Kailash 1?

You meet the doctors who decide whether an implant can go in at the extraction visit, and you can ask them why.

11 Travelling patients

Travelling to Delhi for immediate implants?

An implant placed at the extraction visit can save one trip, but it does not shorten the healing. The bone still needs about three to six months, so patients from outside Delhi usually plan an evaluation, the extraction and implant visit, healing at home, and a return trip for the final tooth.34

Tell us where you live and how long you can stay, and we will explain what fits into a short visit. You can read how dental tourism in Delhi works, or go to our page for international patients having dental implants.

An immediate implant may save a visit, but the treatment still takes months.

12 Questions

Immediate implant questions patients ask in Greater Kailash 1

What are immediate implants?

They are titanium implants placed into the socket at the same visit that a tooth is removed, instead of waiting for the gum to heal first. This may reduce the treatment time and the number of operations.1

Can I have a tooth on the same day?

Sometimes. If the implant is held firmly, a temporary tooth can be attached the same day for appearance. It is kept out of hard biting, and the final tooth is fitted after the bone has bonded, which takes about three to six months.3

Are immediate implants as reliable as delayed ones?

A review of 46 studies found 98.4 percent of immediate implants still in place after two years, but it did not compare them directly with delayed implants and its authors say longer studies are needed.1 Ask your dentist how your own tooth and bone affect the choice.

Does an immediate implant mean fewer visits?

It can mean one fewer operation, because the extraction and the implant happen together.1 The healing period and the final tooth still take months, and you still need review visits.

Is the procedure painful?

The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic, and the aim is that you feel no pain during the procedure. Afterwards, swelling, bruising and discomfort are normal for a few days.3 If you are anxious, read about dental anxiety.

How long does the whole treatment take?

NHS guidance says the whole process could take 6 to 12 months,4 with three to six months of healing before the final tooth is fitted.3 A bone graft adds at least four months.3 Your dentist will give you a timeline for your own mouth.

Can a front tooth have an immediate implant?

Sometimes, but front teeth need extra planning because the shape and level of the gum show when you smile. The authors of the review say special attention has to be given to how the result looks.1

Can I have an immediate implant if I live outside Delhi?

Often yes, but the final tooth is made after months of healing, so there will be at least two visits. Your dentist will say which steps need you in the clinic and which can wait. Message us to plan the visits.

Where can I find immediate implants near me in South Delhi?

Orion Dental Clinic is an immediate implant clinic in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), in the basement of E 75, Greater Kailash Enclave 1, opposite Anubhav Play School, with the entrance at Gate 1.
