Implant Bridge in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi

Orion Dental Clinic is a dentist in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), South Delhi. If you have lost two or more teeth in a row, an implant bridge can replace them with a fixed set of teeth held by implants, so that every missing tooth does not need its own. This page explains what is placed, who it suits, how long it takes, how recovery goes and what can go wrong, in plain language, so that you can decide with confidence.

Treatment is planned by Dr Anupam Sinha (BDS, MDS) and Dr Natalia DeSilva (BDS, MDS). If only one tooth is missing, read about a single tooth implant instead. Ask as many questions as you need before you decide.

Quick answer

An implant bridge at Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi replaces two or more missing teeth in a row with a fixed bridge held by implants, so not every missing tooth needs its own. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva plan each case after an examination and imaging. Treatment usually takes six to twelve months.

01 Overview

What is an implant bridge, and how does it work in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

An implant bridge, also called an implant-supported bridge or multiple teeth implants, replaces several missing teeth in a row with a fixed set of teeth that is held by dental implants. Small titanium posts are placed in the jawbone along the gap. Over the following months the bone grows against the metal and holds each post firmly. A bridge of joined crowns is then fixed to the posts, so the false teeth are carried by the implants and not by the teeth on either side.3

The number of implants is not always one for every missing tooth. As an example, two implants can carry a bridge of three teeth, with a replacement tooth between two crowns. The dentist decides how many posts are needed from the length of the gap, the amount of bone and your bite, and some mouths need more.

A bridge that is held by natural teeth works differently, because the teeth next to the gap are shaped down to carry it. If you are missing most or all of the teeth in a jaw, see full mouth dental implants. Our page on missing teeth explains the causes and the choices.

An implant bridge is planned around the number and position of the posts, so the length of your gap and the bone beneath it matter most.

02 Candidacy

Who can have an implant bridge in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

An implant bridge suits many adults who have lost two or more teeth together, but not everyone, and not always straight away. Your dentist decides after an examination and imaging, and may suggest treating other problems first.3

Who an implant bridge usually suits

  • Adults whose jaw has finished growing and who are missing two or more teeth in a row.
  • People with enough bone where the posts are needed, or who are willing to have a bone graft first.3
  • People with healthy gums who keep their teeth and any implants clean.3
  • People who will attend regular maintenance visits, which the authors of a large review advise after treatment.1

Who needs extra care or a different plan

  • Smokers. Smokers have a much greater failure rate, and NHS guidance asks patients to stop at least six months before treatment.3
  • People with gum disease that has not been treated. Gum treatment comes first.3
  • People who grind their teeth, because grinding can overload implants.3
  • People with health conditions or medicines that affect healing, and teenagers whose jaws are still growing.4

Being a good candidate depends on your bone, your gums and your bite, not on your age alone.

03 Options

Which options replace several missing teeth in Greater Kailash 1?

For two or more missing teeth in a row there are three main ways to plan treatment, and your dentist will explain which fit your mouth.

Fixed implant bridge on two or more implants

Posts are placed along the gap and a bridge of joined crowns is fixed to them. The teeth beside the gap are not used for support. You cannot take the bridge out yourself.

Healing about 3 to 6 months, then the bridge 3

One implant for each missing tooth

Every missing tooth gets its own post and crown, so the teeth are not joined. This means more posts and more surgery, and it can suit some gaps better than a bridge.

More posts, no joined teeth

Tooth-supported bridge or partial denture

A bridge on the natural teeth beside the gap needs those teeth to be shaped and has no surgery. A partial denture rests on the gums and can be taken out. See dental bridges and dentures.

No implant surgery

If one tooth is missing, one post and one crown may be all that is needed. If a tooth still has to come out, ask about tooth extraction and whether a post can be placed at the same visit.

The length of the gap and the condition of your bone decide how many implants are needed and which option fits.

04 Procedure

How is an implant bridge placed, step by step?

Every case is planned individually, so your steps may differ. This is the usual order for a bridge on implants.34

Most of the time is spent waiting for bone to heal, not in the dental chair.

  1. Examination and imaging for an implant bridge

The dentist asks about your health and medicines, examines the gap, the neighbouring teeth and your bite, and takes X-rays or a 3D scan. These show how much bone lies along the gap, and where nerves and sinuses are.

  2. Planning where the posts go

The dentist works out how many posts are needed and where they should sit, so that the bridge is spread evenly across them and fits your bite. You see the plan and can ask about alternatives before agreeing to it.

  3. A bone graft, if the jaw is thin

If there is not enough bone to hold the posts, a bone graft may be done first. NHS patient information says this can add at least four months to treatment, and that it can bring swelling, bruising and pain.34

  4. Implant surgery for several teeth

The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic. The dentist prepares a space for each post, places the titanium posts and closes the gum over them or fits small healing caps. Ask about sedation dentistry if you are anxious.

  5. Healing, with temporary teeth if suitable

The bone now bonds to the posts, which usually takes three to six months and longer if a graft was needed.3 You are given written care instructions. Temporary teeth may be possible while you wait, so that the gap does not show.

  6. Fitting the implant-supported bridge

When the posts are firm, the dentist attaches connectors called abutments and takes impressions. The bridge is made to match your other teeth and the way you bite, then checked and fitted, and the fit is checked again at later visits.

  7. Reviews and cleaning under the bridge

NHS guidance advises monitoring every three to six months over the long term.3 Your dentist checks the gum around each post, the bite and the bridge, and shows you how to clean underneath it.

05 Aftercare

Recovery after implant bridge surgery in Greater Kailash 1

Recovery has four phases. Your dentist will give you written instructions that fit your treatment, and those come first.

The first 48 hours

Some bleeding, swelling and discomfort are common.3 Keep the area clean, eat soft, cool food, rest, and take your medicines as prescribed. Do not smoke.

The first week

Swelling and bruising ease off. Chew away from the treated gap, rinse gently only if you are told to, and attend your follow-up for stitch removal or a check.

Weeks 2 to 12

The posts are still bonding to the bone. Carry on brushing, take extra care around temporary teeth if you have them, keep every review visit and avoid tobacco.

Long term

Brush twice a day and clean underneath the bridge with the interdental brushes or aids your dentist shows you. Attend check-ups, which NHS guidance puts at every three to six months.3

When to call us

Ring the clinic on 098115 01995 the same day for bleeding that will not stop with 20 minutes of firm pressure, swelling that keeps growing after day three, a fever, pus or a bad taste, or pain your medicines do not control. A bridge or screw that feels loose, or numbness or tingling in the lip, chin or tongue, also needs a call. For trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling that spreads towards your eye or neck, go to a hospital emergency department.

Follow your written instructions, keep the area clean and call early if something feels wrong.

06 Limits and risks

When is an implant bridge not the right choice?

An implant bridge involves surgery, and it does not suit everyone. A good dentist is willing to say no, or to wait. These are situations where your dentist may advise a different option, a delay, or advice from your other doctors:

  • Gum disease that has not been treated.
  • Not enough bone along the gap, when a graft is not suitable or not wanted.
  • Smoking, if you are not ready to stop.
  • Health conditions that are not under control, or medicines that affect bone healing.
  • Radiotherapy to the jaw in the past.
  • Teeth grinding that is not controlled.
  • A jaw that is still growing.

In these cases a tooth-supported bridge or a partial denture may be the better first step, or implant treatment may begin after another problem has been treated.

Risks and complications

An implant may not bond. A systematic review of 32 studies found that 95.6 percent of implants supporting bridges were still in place after five years and 93.1 percent after ten.1 That means roughly four or five in every hundred were lost by five years and seven in every hundred by ten. NHS guidance describes a small risk that an implant does not join the bone and has to be removed.4

The bridge itself can fail, and materials matter. Across all designs in that review, including older gold and acrylic bridges, 95.4 percent of bridges were still in place after five years and 80.1 percent after ten. For metal-ceramic bridges the figures were 96.4 percent and 93.9 percent.1

Minor complications are common. Only 66.4 percent of patients had no complication of any kind after five years. The most frequent were chipping of the tooth-coloured covering (13.5 percent), gum inflammation or soft tissue problems (8.5 percent) and loosening of a screw or connector (5.3 percent).1 A separate review of 11 studies found that on average 43 percent of patients had inflamed gum around an implant and 22 percent had the more serious form that destroys bone, with wide differences between studies.2

Surgery has its own risks. Swelling, bruising and discomfort are common for a few days, and infection can occur. Altered feeling or numbness in the lip or chin is very rare and usually settles.3 A bone graft can add swelling, bruising and pain.4

A good plan names these risks before treatment starts, and a good clinic keeps checking the bridge and the implants for years afterwards.

07 Your visit

What happens at your first implant bridge visit?

At your first visit, a dentist at Orion Dental Clinic asks which teeth are missing, how long the gap has been there and how it affects your eating and your smile. Bring a list of your medicines and any recent reports or X-rays.

The dentist examines the gap, the neighbouring teeth, your gums and your bite, and takes X-rays or a 3D scan. You then talk through how many implants are needed to carry a bridge, how that compares with one implant per tooth, a conventional bridge or a denture, and how long each takes.

The first visit is for questions and a plan, not for surgery.

08 Why this clinic

Why choose Orion Dental Clinic for an implant bridge in Greater Kailash 1?

You meet the doctors who plan your treatment, and you can ask them how many implants your gap needs and why.

Both doctors treat implant patients

Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva each see implant patients at the clinic, and reviews from patients mention both of them.

A scan before any plan

The clinic has imaging on site, and Dr Natalia DeSilva has studied 3D imaging with CBCT, which helps to judge the bone along a gap.

Visiting from elsewhere

Some patients travel to Delhi for treatment, and Dr Natalia DeSilva also treats Russian-speaking patients.

Ask the doctor who will plan your bridge how many implants your gap needs, and why.

12 Travelling patients

Travelling to Delhi for an implant bridge?

An implant bridge also needs several months for the bone to heal around the posts. For patients who live elsewhere that usually means an evaluation, a surgery visit, healing at home and a return trip to have the bridge fitted.34

If you tell us where you live and how long you can stay in Delhi, we will explain what a short visit can cover and what must wait. You can read how dental tourism in Delhi works, or go to the page for international patients having dental implants.

Plan an implant bridge as a staged treatment over months, not a single trip, unless your dentist advises otherwise.

13 Questions

Implant bridge questions patients ask in Greater Kailash 1

How long does an implant bridge last?

In a review of 32 studies that followed patients for at least five years, 95.6 percent of the implants were still in place after five years and 93.1 percent after ten.1 The bridge can need repair sooner than the posts, for example when the covering chips or a screw loosens, which is why regular check-ups matter.1 How long yours lasts depends on how well it is cleaned and the health of your gums.

How many implants are needed for an implant bridge?

It depends on how many teeth are missing, where the gap is, how much bone lies beneath it and how you bite. Two implants can carry a bridge of three teeth in some mouths, and other gaps need more. Your dentist decides after an examination and imaging.

How is an implant bridge different from a normal dental bridge?

A normal bridge is held by crowns on the teeth beside the gap, which have to be shaped down. An implant bridge is held by posts in the jawbone, so those teeth are not used for support. An implant bridge also involves surgery and several months of healing.

Does implant bridge surgery hurt?

The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic, and the aim is that you feel no pain during the procedure. Afterwards, swelling, bruising and some discomfort are normal for a few days.3 If you are anxious, ask about sedation dentistry or read about dental anxiety.

How long does an implant bridge take?

NHS guidance says the whole process could take 6 to 12 months,4 with three to six months of healing before the bridge is fitted.3 A bone graft adds at least four months.3 Your dentist will give you a timeline for your own mouth.

How do I clean under an implant bridge?

Brush twice a day, and clean underneath the bridge and around each post with interdental brushes or the aids your dentist recommends. Attend check-ups every three to six months, as NHS guidance advises.3 A well-structured maintenance programme after treatment is also recommended by the authors of the large review.1

What can go wrong with an implant bridge?

Complications are common but usually minor. Over five years the covering chipped in 13.5 percent of bridges, gum problems occurred in 8.5 percent and a screw or connector loosened in 5.3 percent.1 A small number of implants do not bond to the bone and have to be removed.4

Can I have an implant bridge if I live outside Delhi?

Often yes, but the treatment is done in stages over several months. Your dentist will say which steps need you in the clinic and which can wait. Message us to plan the visits.

Where can I find an implant bridge near me in South Delhi?

Orion Dental Clinic is an implant bridge clinic in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), in the basement of E 75, Greater Kailash Enclave 1, opposite Anubhav Play School, with the entrance at Gate 1.
