Full mouth implants for international patients · Greater Kailash 1, Delhi
Replacing all the teeth in a jaw with implants is the largest dental plan a traveller can take on, and it is always staged over months. At Orion Dental Clinic, a dentist in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), South Delhi, this page explains how full mouth implant treatment is staged for patients who live abroad, what the survival figures show, what the evidence says about four against more implants, when you can fly, and what can go wrong, in plain language.
Care is planned by Dr Anupam Sinha (BDS, MDS) and Dr Natalia DeSilva (BDS, MDS). Ask as many questions as you need before you travel.
These figures come from systematic reviews, NHS hospital patient information and a dental journal, listed at the end of the page. They describe averages. Your dentist will give you a timeline for your own mouth.

Quick answer
Full mouth implants for international patients at Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi are staged over many months: assessment, surgery, healing and the final teeth. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva plan the stages around your travel. A home dentist for the healing months, and at least 72 hours before flying, are part of the plan.
01 Overview
Full mouth implants replace all the teeth in a jaw with a fixed set carried by several implants. Healing takes about 3 to 6 months before the final teeth are fitted, and one NHS hospital says the whole process usually takes 6 to 12 months.23 For a patient who lives abroad, that means the treatment is a sequence of stages, with healing at home between them, and cannot be done in a single trip.
The survival figures are good. A systematic review found lower-jaw implants still in place in more than 98% of cases after five years and about 97% after ten, and in the wider review fixed full-arch sets lost fewer implants than removable ones.1 The all-on-four design, which uses four implants per jaw, had 99.8% implant survival beyond 24 months in one review, but the authors say the evidence is limited, because follow-up was short and many patients dropped out.5
Flying has rules too. The recommended minimum time before flying after implant placement is 72 hours, and after a sinus lift at least two weeks.4 Our page on full mouth dental implants explains the treatment in detail, and our page on dental implants for international patients covers the staging for a single implant.
A full mouth plan runs for most of a year, so the questions are how the stages fit your life abroad and who looks after the healing.
02 Candidacy
This is a large plan, and it suits some people better than others. The dentist decides after an examination and a scan.
The plan suits people who can stage a long treatment, and others should consider alternatives.
03 Options
The plan depends on the bone and on how you want the teeth to work.
The all-on-four concept uses four implants per jaw to carry a fixed set, and may suit limited bone. One review found 99.8% implant survival beyond 24 months, from limited evidence.5 In the lower jaw, a wider review found a fixed set on four implants lost more implants than one on five or more.1
Evidence limited 5
Six or more implants spread the biting load over more posts and need more bone. More than 98% of lower-jaw implants were still in place at five years, in a review of fixed full-arch work.1
More than 98% at 5 years 1
A removable denture held by implants may need fewer posts and is taken out to clean. Our dentures page explains the research.
Fewer implants
| Four implants per jaw | More implants | Implant denture | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Fixed set on four posts 5 | Fixed set on six or more 1 | Removable denture held by implants |
| What the research found | 99.8% beyond 24 months, limited evidence 5 | More than 98% at 5 years, lower jaw 1 | See the dentures page |
| Main limit | Lost more lower-jaw implants than five or more 1 | Needs more bone | Must be taken out to clean |
The plan is chosen from the bone, the evidence and your preferences, and not from a package.
04 Procedure
Every case is individual, so your plan may differ. This is the usual order.
The whole plan takes six to twelve months, and the follow-up between visits is as important as the surgery.
Tell us your dental and health history and your dates, and bring any earlier X-rays and reports to your first visit.
The dentist examines your mouth, takes a scan to see the bone and treats gum disease or decay first.2
Teeth that cannot be saved are removed and the implants are placed, usually in one stage, with a bone graft or sinus lift if there is not enough bone.2
Wait at least 72 hours after implant placement before flying, and at least two weeks after a sinus lift, as your dentist advises.4
The bone bonds with the implants over about 3 to 6 months, with a dentist at home checking the healing.2
The final fixed teeth are made and fitted, and the bite and cleaning are checked.23
Regular reviews check the implants and the gums, because full-arch work still needs maintenance and some implants are lost over time.1
05 Aftercare
Your dentist will give you written instructions, and those come first.
Keep the area clean, eat soft, cool food, rest and take your medicines exactly as prescribed.2
A dentist at home should check the healing and the gums, with your records and X-rays to hand.2
Clean around every implant and under the fixed teeth every day, in the way you are shown.
Keep regular reviews for years, with us or with your own dentist, who should have your records.
Call the clinic on 098115 01995 if you have bleeding that does not stop, swelling that keeps growing after the third day, a fever, pus or a bad taste, severe pain, or teeth or implants that feel loose. If you have swelling that spreads across your face or neck, or trouble breathing or swallowing, call 112 or go to a hospital emergency department where you are.
Healing at home, daily cleaning and regular reviews matter as much as the surgery.
06 Limits and risks
The figures are good, but this is a long, staged treatment, and it has risks that a short trip makes harder to manage. These are situations where another plan may be better:
In these cases staging the plan differently, treating the mouth first, or a removable alternative may be better.
Some implants are lost. About 97% of lower-jaw implants were still in place at ten years, so some are lost over time.1
The evidence for four implants is limited. The all-on-four review says follow-up was short and many patients dropped out, and a wider review found a fixed set on four lower-jaw implants lost more implants than one on five or more.15
Surgery has risks. The hospital leaflets list swelling and bruising, and a bone graft can add swelling, bruising and pain.2
Flying after surgery. The recommended minimum interval is 72 hours after implant placement and at least two weeks after a sinus lift, from limited research mostly on military aircrew.4
A good plan names these risks, and the dentist chooses the number of implants for your bone and not for convenience.
07 Your visit
At the first appointment a dentist at Orion Dental Clinic asks about your health, medicines and smoking, reviews your records and X-rays, and examines your mouth, gums and any denture. A 3D scan measures the bone in each jaw where needed.
You then agree whether a full set on implants suits you, which design is planned, and how the months of surgery, healing and fitting will be split between trips to Delhi and care at home. Nothing is done until you agree.
A full-arch plan is agreed in stages, with each trip's purpose written down.

“This is an amazing clinic, I live in Singapore and I was in Delhi for the holidays. Needed to get a wisdom tooth removed a bit last minute. They fit me in quickly to their schedule, and the service was incredible and the pain minimal thanks to Dr. Sinha's expertise. Service stands out vs other clinics. What an amazing clinic, I will be back for sure and recommend them to everyone.”

11 Travelling patients
Plan the stages first and the flights second. A full arch usually means a trip for assessment and surgery, 3 to 6 months of healing at home, and a return for the final teeth, with the whole process taking 6 to 12 months.23 After implant placement wait at least 72 hours before flying.4
Our guides to travelling to Delhi and how dental tourism works cover the practical side.
Plan the stages first, and fit the flights around them.
12 Questions
The implants can usually be placed in one stage, but the bone needs about 3 to 6 months to heal before the final teeth are fitted, so most people need a second trip.2
Usually 6 to 12 months from first visit to final teeth, according to one NHS hospital.3
More than 98% of lower-jaw implants were still in place at 5 years and about 97% at 10 years, in a systematic review.1
At least 72 hours after implant placement, and at least two weeks after a sinus lift, as your dentist advises.4
It is strongly advisable, to check the healing between trips, to review the implants for years and to hold your records.2
