Invisalign and braces for international patients · Greater Kailash 1, Delhi
Straightening teeth takes a year or two and regular visits, which makes it one of the hardest treatments to fit around living abroad. At Orion Dental Clinic, a dentist in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), South Delhi, this page says frankly how braces and Invisalign work for patients who live outside Delhi, how long they take, how often you must be seen, what the research says about aligners, and the plans that can work, in plain language.
Care is planned by Dr Anupam Sinha (BDS, MDS) and Dr Natalia DeSilva (BDS, MDS). Ask as many questions as you need before you travel.
These statements come from NHS and British Orthodontic Society patient information and systematic reviews, listed at the end of the page. Your orthodontist will give you a timeline for your own teeth.

Quick answer
Invisalign and braces for international patients at Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi take one to two years and need regular reviews. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva say frankly whether treatment here is practical for where you live. A retainer follows either way, and reviews can be the hard part.
01 Overview
Fixed braces usually stay in place for one to two years, with adjustment visits every six to eight weeks, and an average of 19.9 months in a review of 22 studies.14 Aligners are removable trays worn day and night except at meals, and they still need reviews and a proper plan from an orthodontist.2 After either, a retainer is needed to stop the teeth moving back.15
So the honest question is how you would be seen every six to eight weeks if you live abroad. The main review of Invisalign found support in mild to moderate cases without extractions, and a wider review found aligners less predictable than braces in some situations, so the choice depends on your teeth.3 If you cannot visit regularly, a plan with reviews at an orthodontist at home may serve you better than starting treatment here.
That is not a reason to give up on a trip. A consultation and a plan can be done in one visit, and some treatments are practical in stages. Our pages on braces treatment and Invisalign explain the treatments.
Straightening teeth is a long treatment with regular visits, so the plan must answer how you will be seen between trips.
02 Candidacy
It suits people who can attend reviews, or who can arrange them at home. The orthodontist decides after an examination and records.
The decision depends more on how you can be seen than on which appliance you prefer.
03 Options
These are the plans that can be made to work, and the first question for each is who does the reviews.
The plan and the appliance are decided in Delhi, and an orthodontist at home agrees to carry out the adjustments, which are needed every six to eight weeks for fixed braces.1 Ask your orthodontist first, because some may not take on a treatment planned elsewhere.
Reviews every 6 to 8 weeks 1
If you can stay in Delhi for the treatment, or return several times a year, the full treatment can be done here, taking one to two years in all, with a retainer afterwards.14
1 to 2 years 1
Some visitors come for an examination, records and a written plan, and then start treatment with an orthodontist at home, who has our records. This is a legitimate use of a short trip.
A plan to take home
| Fixed braces | Aligners | Plan only | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visits | Every 6 to 8 weeks for 1 to 2 years 1 | Reviews still needed, fewer in some cases 2 | One visit for records and a plan |
| What the research found | 19.9 months on average 4 | Supported in mild to moderate cases 3 | Not applicable |
| Main limit | Regular reviews are essential | Full-time wear, less predictable in some cases 23 | Needs an orthodontist at home to carry on |
A plan that names who does each review is more important than the appliance.
04 Procedure
Every case is individual, so your plan may differ. This is the usual order.
The first two steps decide whether the rest is practical, and they should come before any fitting.
Tell us where you live and how often you could be seen, and bring any earlier X-rays or orthodontic records to your first visit.
We say whether treatment in Delhi is practical for your circumstances, or whether starting with an orthodontist nearer home would serve you better.
The orthodontist examines your teeth and bite, and takes X-rays, photographs and scans to plan treatment, and treats decay or gum disease first.1
You talk through fixed braces and aligners, with what the research shows for your case, and how reviews would be arranged.23
The appliance is fitted and adjusted every six to eight weeks for one to two years, here or with an orthodontist at home.1
When the teeth are in position the braces come off or the aligners finish, and a retainer holds them there, as the orthodontist advises.15
Retainers need to be worn as advised and checked from time to time, because without them the teeth can move back.15
05 Aftercare
Your orthodontist will give you written instructions, and those come first.
Tooth decay is a risk of braces, linked to sugary food and drink, so keep them to meal times and clean well afterwards.1
Hard, crunchy or sticky foods can break braces. Know who to call, and where to go, if a bracket breaks when you are away from the clinic.1
Wear aligners full-time, day and night, except at meals, as the British Orthodontic Society advises.2
Call the clinic on 098115 01995 if a bracket or wire breaks, if your gums are very red, swollen or painful, or if teeth stay painful for more than a few days. If you have swelling that spreads across your face or neck, or trouble breathing or swallowing, call 112 or go to a hospital emergency department where you are.
Plan for breakages and a lost retainer before you leave, because they happen when you are away.
06 Limits and risks
Orthodontics is well established, but a long treatment with regular reviews has particular difficulties for people who live far away. These are situations where another plan may be better:
In these cases starting with an orthodontist nearer home, or taking only a plan from here, may be better.
Treatment is long and regular. A fixed brace stays on for one to two years with adjustments every six to eight weeks, and treatment averaged 19.9 months in 22 studies.14
Decay and breakages. The NHS lists tooth decay linked to sugary food and drink, broken braces, stuck chewing gum and soreness after fitting or adjustment.1
Aligners are not right for everyone. The main review of Invisalign supports it in mild to moderate cases without extractions, and aligners must be worn full-time.23
Teeth move back without a retainer. A retainer is needed after braces, and without it the teeth can move back.15
A good plan names these difficulties, and says plainly when treatment elsewhere would be easier.
07 Your visit
At your first visit, an orthodontist at Orion Dental Clinic asks what bothers you about your teeth, whether you have had braces before, and where you live and how long you can stay. You are asked about your health, medicines and allergies.
The orthodontist examines your teeth, gums and bite and takes X-rays and photographs. You then talk through the options, how long each would take, how the reviews would be arranged, what the risks are and what leaving the teeth would mean, and you can take your time to decide.
The first visit is for an examination and a realistic plan for reviews, and nothing is fitted until you agree.

Imaging is available at the clinic, so the X-rays used for planning can be taken there.
Ask how reviews would be arranged, and whether treatment here is practical for you.

“This is an amazing clinic, I live in Singapore and I was in Delhi for the holidays. Needed to get a wisdom tooth removed a bit last minute. They fit me in quickly to their schedule, and the service was incredible and the pain minimal thanks to Dr. Sinha's expertise. Service stands out vs other clinics. What an amazing clinic, I will be back for sure and recommend them to everyone.”

Possibly, but ask them before you start, because some may not take on a treatment planned elsewhere.
Yes. An examination, records and a written plan can be done in a short stay, and you can start treatment with an orthodontist at home.
Contact us or your own dentist. Hard, crunchy or sticky foods can break braces, so avoid them.1
Message us on WhatsApp or call, tell us where you live and send photographs. There is no form to fill in.
Send recent X-rays or scans, photographs of your teeth, a short note of your dental history and medicines, and the dates you could be in Delhi. We will say what can be planned in advance and what needs an examination first. Keep a copy of your records, and ask for a written report in English before you fly home.
13 Second opinion
A conversation before you travel lets you ask whether treatment in Delhi is practical for where you live, and what the reviews would involve, before you commit to anything.
