How dental tourism works · Greater Kailash 1, Delhi
A dental trip goes smoothly when each step is done in the right order: your own dentist, a first conversation, checking the clinic, travel documents, the treatment, the flight home and the follow-up. At Orion Dental Clinic, a dentist in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), South Delhi, this page walks through those steps, with the advice of the CDC, the UK government and the dental literature behind each one, in plain language.
Care is planned by Dr Anupam Sinha (BDS, MDS) and Dr Natalia DeSilva (BDS, MDS). Ask as many questions as you need before you travel.
These statements come from the CDC, the UK government and a dental journal, listed at the end of the page. Rules change, so check the live pages.

Quick answer
Dental tourism at Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi follows seven steps: your own dentist, a first conversation, checking the clinic, insurance and travel, treatment, the flight home and follow-up. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva explain each. Agencies advise agreeing aftercare before you go.
01 Overview
There is no single official process for dental tourism, so what follows is built from the advice of the agencies that publish guidance for travellers. They agree on the main points: discuss treatment with your own dentist first, research the clinic and the dentist, check your insurance, plan how you will get home and who will look after you, and bring back your records in English.124
The treatment itself is only one part. The UK government's campaign advises that you choose the facility and team by the quality of the treatment and not by the appeal of the destination, and that you confirm the dentist you consult is the one who will treat you.2 The CDC adds that overseas facilities may not hold accreditation, track outcomes or keep formal records security, so ask.1
The steps below are the order we suggest. Our page on travelling to Delhi explains flights and health checks.
Each step makes the next one easier, and skipping the early ones is what causes trouble later.
02 Candidacy
How much planning a trip needs depends on how many stages the treatment has.
Simple treatment can fit a short stay, and staged treatment needs a plan for each stage.
03 Options
These are the stages, in order, with what each one needs.
Agree the treatment with your own dentist, check the clinic and the dentist, and review your insurance.2
Plan first 2
You can start without travelling, by message.
| Before | In Delhi | After | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main task | Your dentist, the clinic, insurance 2 | Examination, treatment, flight timing 3 | Records, follow-up, a person to call 14 |
| Who is involved | You, your dentist, the clinic | The clinic's dentists | Your own dentist, the clinic by message |
| Main limit | Needs time to arrange | Evidence on flying is limited 3 | Follow-up abroad may be limited 4 |
The stages around the treatment, rather than the treatment itself, are the ones most people forget.
04 Procedure
Every case is individual, so your steps may differ. This is the usual order.
The seven steps put the planning before the flight and the follow-up before the trip.
The UK government's campaign advises agreeing the treatment with your UK dentist or doctor before you consult a foreign one, because they can flag long-term conditions that a foreign dentist may not know about.2
Tell us what you need, where you live, how long you could stay and when you would like to travel, and send any X-rays or photographs. We say what can be judged remotely and what needs an examination.
Ask about the dentist's experience with your treatment, check their details through the official sources of the country, and confirm that the dentist you speak to will treat you.2 The CDC advises researching accreditation and credentials.1
Check whether your insurance covers the treatment and any complications.4 The CDC advises a travel medicine consultation 4 to 6 weeks before you leave.1 Questions about entry and travel documents can be discussed with the team, so message us and we will talk them through.
The treatment follows an examination and X-rays, and you are told what to expect afterwards. Postpone treatment if you are unwell.2
Fly only when it is suitable. The minimum intervals are 24 hours after restorative treatment, 24 to 48 hours after a simple extraction, 72 hours after root canal treatment, surgical extraction or an implant, and at least two weeks after a sinus lift.3
Ask for a full report and X-rays in English, share them with your own dentist and agree the aftercare, including what to do about a complication.12
05 Aftercare
Your dentist will give you written instructions, and those come first.
Share your records and X-rays, and tell them your full treatment history, so that they can continue the care.12
Ask the clinic what to watch for after your treatment and what to do if it happens, and agree the plan with your home dentist.12
The UK government advises keeping receipts and doctors' notes and contacting your insurer as soon as possible if something goes wrong.4
You can message us on WhatsApp or email if something worries you after you leave.
Call the clinic on 098115 01995 if something worries you after treatment, and see your own dentist or a hospital emergency department if you have swelling that spreads across your face or neck, trouble breathing or swallowing, a fever, or bleeding that will not stop.
Your own dentist and a record of the treatment are your safety net after you leave.
06 Limits and risks
Most trips go well when they are planned, but these are the things to guard against:
In these cases a different plan, such as staging the treatment or starting nearer home, is better.
Little official help. The UK government says the Foreign Office usually cannot help with problems with care after planned treatment abroad, and treats it as a commercial arrangement.4
Insurance gaps. Standard travel insurance does not normally cover travel abroad for planned treatment, and some of the expenses of complications may not be covered.4
Early discharge and limited aftercare. The UK government's campaign warns that a foreign clinician may discharge you quickly, even if you have complications.2
Flying and complications. The recommended flight intervals are a starting point drawn from limited research, mostly on military aircrew, and your dentist should tailor them to you.3
Most of the risks are about planning and follow-up, and they can be reduced.
07 Your visit
The first appointment is step four of the journey, after your messages and records have been shared. A dentist at Orion Dental Clinic confirms what you need, then examines your teeth, gums and bite and takes any X-rays that are still needed.
You then agree the schedule: what can happen in each visit, how long to wait before you fly, and who looks after the follow-up. If the plan needs more time than you have, you are told before treatment starts.
By the end of the first appointment you have an examination and an agreed schedule.
08 Why this clinic
You meet the doctors who plan your treatment, and you can ask them how the stages would fit your stay.

Dr Natalia DeSilva
BDS, MDS - Oral Medicine and Radiology
Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva see patients with many different needs, and patients mention both in their reviews.
A patient from the Netherlands writes in a review that they come from the Netherlands to have their teeth done and are happy with what the doctors did.
Imaging is available at the clinic, so the X-rays used for planning can be taken there.
Ask how many visits your treatment needs and which of them could be done at home.

“This is an amazing clinic, I live in Singapore and I was in Delhi for the holidays. Needed to get a wisdom tooth removed a bit last minute. They fit me in quickly to their schedule, and the service was incredible and the pain minimal thanks to Dr. Sinha's expertise. Service stands out vs other clinics. What an amazing clinic, I will be back for sure and recommend them to everyone.”

11 Travelling patients
The easiest way to fit treatment into a stay is to start by telling us the dates. We can then say which treatments fit before your flight, allowing the minimum intervals of 24 hours to two weeks,3 and which need another visit or follow-up at home. You do not need to decide everything before you write: a first message with your dates, a few photographs and any recent X-rays is enough to begin.
Our guides to implants, braces and Invisalign and smile makeovers and veneers explain how longer treatments are staged.
Start with your dates, and the plan follows from them.
