Smile Makeover & Veneers for International Patients in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi

A smile makeover is the cosmetic plan most likely to need more than one trip, because it has stages: planning, treating the mouth, whitening, then bonding or veneers made to match. At Orion Dental Clinic, a dentist in Greater Kailash 1 (GK 1), South Delhi, this page explains how a makeover and veneers are staged for patients who live abroad, what can be done in a short stay, what the research says about how long each part lasts, and what can go wrong, in plain language.

Care is planned by Dr Anupam Sinha (BDS, MDS) and Dr Natalia DeSilva (BDS, MDS). Ask as many questions as you need before you travel.

Quick answer

A smile makeover for international patients at Orion Dental Clinic in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi is staged: planning, treatment of the mouth, whitening, then bonding or veneers. Dr Anupam Sinha and Dr Natalia DeSilva say which parts can fit a short stay. Veneers need at least two stages, and no study has tested a makeover as a whole.

01 Overview

How does a smile makeover work for international patients in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

A smile makeover combines treatments chosen to change how your smile looks, usually whitening, bonding, veneers and sometimes gum reshaping or braces. A scoping review of 57 papers on cosmetic dentistry found that most were opinion pieces, with only 11 cross-sectional studies, and it raised concerns about expectations and marketing, so a plan should be realistic and based on what each part can do.4

Some parts fit a short stay. In-office whitening takes one appointment of one to two hours, while a dentist-prescribed home kit with trays takes two to six weeks and may last about three years.3 Veneers need at least two stages, planning and preparation, then fitting after the laboratory has made them, and a review. In the review of 25 studies, 95.5% of porcelain veneers were still in place after ten years, with fracture the most common problem.1 Bonding is quicker, but 24.1% of front-tooth composite restorations in a review had failed after three years or more.2

The recommended minimum time before flying after restorative treatment is 24 hours.5 Our pages on a smile makeover and dental veneers explain the treatments.

A makeover is a series of choices, and the realistic question is which parts fit your stay and which would wait.

02 Candidacy

Who are smile makeovers and veneers for international patients right for?

A makeover suits people with healthy teeth and gums who want to change how their smile looks. The dentist decides after an examination.

When it may suit you

  • Your teeth and gums are healthy, or can be made healthy first.3
  • You want to change the colour, shape or gaps of your front teeth.
  • You can allow two stages for veneers, with the laboratory time between them.
  • You understand that results fade or wear and need upkeep.123

When another plan may be better

  • You want a dramatic change in a few days, which the stages do not allow.
  • You have untreated decay or gum disease, which has to be treated first.3
  • You grind or bite hard, which can chip bonding and veneers.12
  • Your expectations are driven by marketing or comparison, which the research flags as a concern.4

A makeover suits healthy teeth and realistic goals, and the dentist helps with both.

03 Options

Which parts of a smile makeover can fit a stay in Greater Kailash 1?

Each part has its own time and its own evidence.

Whitening during your stay

Whitening in the clinic takes one appointment of 1 to 2 hours, and a home kit with custom trays takes 2 to 6 weeks.3 It lightens natural teeth only, and the result fades, lasting about three years with a dentist's advice.3

1 to 2 hours 3

Bonding for chips and small gaps

Tooth-coloured resin shaped on the tooth, often done in one visit. In a review of 1,821 front-tooth restorations, 24.1% had failed after three years or more, so expect repairs.2

24.1% failed after 3 years or more 2

Veneers in two stages

Thin shells bonded to the front of the teeth, planned and prepared in one stage and fitted after the laboratory has made them. 95.5% were still in place after ten years in a review of 25 studies, and fracture was the commonest problem.1

95.5% at 10 years 1

04 Procedure

How is a smile makeover staged for international patients in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

Every plan is individual, so your steps may differ. This is the usual order.

The plan puts health first, then colour, then shape, and the laboratory time is what lengthens the stay.

  1. Step 1: contact us

Tell us what you would like to change and when you could travel, and bring any photographs of how your smile looked before.

  2. Step 2: examination and a smile plan in Delhi

The dentist examines your teeth and gums, takes photographs and records, and plans the changes, and can show you a preview of the planned smile before treatment starts.

  3. Step 3: treating the mouth first

Decay and gum disease are treated first, because whitening is for healthy teeth and gums.3

  4. Step 4: whitening

Whitening is done in the clinic in one appointment of 1 to 2 hours, or with trays over 2 to 6 weeks, before bonding or veneers are matched.3

  5. Step 5: preparing for bonding or veneers

The teeth are prepared, impressions or scans are taken, and the laboratory makes the veneers. Bonding can be done directly in the same visit.

  6. Step 6: fitting, and the flight home

The veneers are fitted and checked, and you can fly at least 24 hours after restorative treatment, as your dentist advises.5

  7. Step 7: review and upkeep

Regular reviews check the veneers and the bonding, because fracture and wear are the commonest problems.12

05 Aftercare

How do you look after a new smile after you fly home?

Your dentist will give you written instructions, and those come first.

Whitened teeth

Sensitivity to cold or sweet food and drink is a known side effect, and coffee, tea, red wine and smoking stain teeth again.3

Bonding

Avoid biting hard objects such as nails, pens and ice, because the resin can chip.2

Veneers

Avoid biting hard foods on veneered teeth, and tell your dentist about grinding, because fracture is the commonest problem.1

Reviews

Keep regular reviews, with us or with your own dentist, who should have your records.

When to call us

Call the clinic on 098115 01995 if a veneer or bonded edge breaks or comes off, if your gums stay sore, or if a tooth is painful. If you have swelling that spreads across your face or neck, or trouble breathing or swallowing, call 112 or go to a hospital emergency department where you are.

A new smile needs gentle use and regular checks, and your own dentist should have your records.

06 Limits and risks

What are the limits of a smile makeover for visitors?

A makeover can change how a smile looks, but it has limits that matter more when you live far away. These are situations where another plan may be better:

  • A plan that needs more stages than you can attend.
  • Untreated decay or gum disease.
  • Grinding or hard biting, which chips bonding and veneers.
  • Expectations that no treatment can meet.
  • No dentist at home to repair a chip or a lost veneer.

In these cases a smaller plan, treating the mouth first, or a plan with local follow-up may be better.

Risks and complications

No study has tested a makeover as a whole. The evidence is for the parts, and the cosmetic dentistry literature is mostly opinion, with concerns about expectations, marketing and harm from invasive procedures.4

Bonding and veneers can fail. In a review, 24.1% of front-tooth composite restorations had failed after three years or more, and fracture was the commonest veneer problem, followed by debonding.12

Whitening fades and can cause sensitivity. It lasts about three years with advice, and sensitivity and sore gums are known side effects.3

Veneers involve removing enamel. A veneer is bonded to the front of a prepared tooth, and the preparation cannot be undone, so the decision deserves care.1

A good plan names these limits, keeps the preparation to what is needed, and plans for upkeep.

07 Your visit

What happens at your first smile makeover appointment in Greater Kailash 1, Delhi?

At your first visit, a dentist at Orion Dental Clinic asks what you would like to change and why, what you do not want to change, and when you could travel. You are asked about your health, medicines and allergies, and any earlier cosmetic work.

The dentist examines your teeth, gums and bite, takes photographs and X-rays, and talks through a plan: which parts, in what order, how long each takes, what the risks are, and what could be done at home. You can take your time to decide.

The first visit is for a realistic smile plan, and nothing is prepared until you agree.
